How to celebrate Pride month

What is Pride month?

Pride Month, observed annually in June, commemorates the historic Stonewall riots of 1969, a pivotal moment in the advancement of gay rights. These protests marked a significant milestone in the fight for LGBTQ+ equality, inspiring positive change both in the United States and around the globe.

Pride Month is a joyous celebration of love and friendship that transcends all boundaries. It not only acknowledges the remarkable progress made in LGBTQIA+ rights but also serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle for acceptance in certain parts of the world.

It’s celebrated in many ways; typically in the form of parades, picnics, parties, concerts and more. Below, we’re listing just a few of the ways you can celebrate this month.

Educate Yourself about Pride

While we've provided a brief introduction to Pride Month, there is a wealth of knowledge and history to explore. Delve deeper into the significance of the Stonewall riots and the pivotal moments that have shaped LGBTQ+ rights. Engage in learning opportunities such as reading books, attending workshops, or enjoying LGBTQ+ movies and TV series.

Femme Fest

From June 9th to June 12th, the picturesque Peak District hosts Femme Fest, a camping festival designed as a safe space for LGBTQ+ women and their allies. Against the stunning backdrop, enjoy an all-female lineup of original artists, tribute bands, DJs, and acoustic performers.
